Volkswagen Pays $85 Million In Texas Over Dieselgate

Audi

Volkswagen and Audi have to pay $85 million for breaking Texas laws. It's because of the diesel emissions scandal. Ken Paxton is the Attorney General who announced this on Thursday.

Volkswagen is a big car company from Germany, and it has some car brands. One of these brands is Audi.

The company was in lawsuits for almost a decade due to the diesel emissions scandal. The settlement resulted from this scandal. In 2015, the news broke out.

Emission-Manipulating Device

From 2006 to 2015, the German carmaker put a device in their cars sold in the US and Europe. This device manipulated emissions tests.

11 million Volkswagen cars have been recalled globally. Volkswagen has paid a lot of money for deceiving people and breaking rules.

The big car company paid $20 billion for federal court actions, but they are still responsible for local and state government lawsuits. Courts have decided that before.

The Attorney General, Paxton, claimed that companies cannot escape responsibility when they break Texas laws, harm Texans, and damage the environment.

"They're learning the hard way," he said. "Volkswagen and Audi are paying the price."
