Communication

MOM made the SOL in March 2023. It shows the jobs lacking skills in Singapore. People applying for EP in these jobs will get priority in September.

There are 27 jobs on a list. Almost 50% are in technology. Cybersecurity and data analytics are popular.

Before the pandemic, people already knew that analytics and data-driven jobs would be in demand, especially in Singapore. Even in 2019, this was projected. Digitalization made this even more urgent. However, there is still a skill gap that must be addressed.

The green economy has jobs in carbon trading, analysis, and verification. These jobs are becoming more popular. People kind of knew this would happen.

Minister for Manpower Tan See Leng said that jobs on the SOL have to be important to Singapore's economy. This agrees with Singapore's goal for sustainability in the Singapore Green Plan 2030.

Healthcare and maritime are popular sectors, along with agriculture technology and financial services.

Cybersecurity Demand Continues To Rise

AI is becoming more prevalent, causing concerns about job security in various industries such as tech, finance, and marketing.

AI is taking over low-level cybersecurity roles like sifting through data logs. But, new jobs with different responsibilities are being created too.

AI and ML are important for data analysis, which can customize offerings and increase revenue. But AI and ML systems may also be at risk for data breaches. That's why companies need to invest in protecting both their own data and their customers' privacy.

AI is making cybersecurity more important. This is creating job security in the industry.

Lots of people are getting into cybersecurity, even if they didn't start in IT. A group in Singapore, called Red Alpha Cybersecurity, is teaching all kinds of people how to do it.

Anyone can learn cybersecurity. It doesn't matter if you have qualifications or experience. The CEO, Benjamin Tan, believes everyone can do it. Cybersecurity is a skill-based job. It changes all the time.

At Red Alpha's bootcamp, they train people who used to do music, graphic design, or psychology. For cybersecurity jobs, bosses want someone who has practical experience, not just a degree or diploma in computers.

Many countries are seeing a rise in the need for cybersecurity experts. It's expected to get worse in 2022 with a lack of specialists. The tech industry is struggling and laying off many workers. However, the need for cybersecurity remains strong.

Singapore wants to reach Net Zero. This means all greenhouse gas emissions should be zero. To do this, they need carbon credit infrastructure. This is very important.

Carbon credits are a way for companies or governments to make up for their emissions. They represent the removal of carbon dioxide from the air. Certain groups make these credits by offsetting carbon.

Singapore's carbon tax is going up until 2030, which gives companies a reason to reduce their emissions. To achieve this, carbon trading needs to be easy and effective.

To make sure carbon credits are good, we need people. We need to check where the credits come from. People who make the credits also need to be checked. We also need traders and brokers to help with buying and selling.

There are digital platforms for carbon trading in Singapore from companies like URECA and AirCarbon Exchange. Southeast Asia has seen an increase in private investments in climate tech too. They passed a record of US$1 billion in 2022.

SkillsFuture says that there is a big need for people with skills in carbon market strategies and sustainable investments. In the past five years, the demand for those skills has gone up by more than 1,500 percent. This field is likely to keep growing because climate change is becoming more and more important.

Upskilling In High Demand

When new technology like AI comes along, we gotta get ready for the future. AI will replace jobs in advertising, finance, and design. We need people who know how to work with and improve AI programs.

Coursera and edX have begun teaching courses on ChatGPT and other AI tools. There is much to be learned about creating good prompts and maximizing AI potential.

AI technology is becoming more popular in companies. This means that skills related to AI will become more important. A survey by Resume Builder found that most companies hiring this April wanted employees who were trained in ChatGPT.

New systems have emerged. Professionals should start preparing for tomorrow's job market.
