The Koru is the runner-up for the title of the biggest sailing vessel in the world, with only the Sailing Yacht A holding the top spot. The Sailing Yacht A, crafted by Philippe Starcke, belongs to Andrey Melnichenko, a Russian magnate in the fertilizer industry.

The sailing boat is called Koru as it signifies 'new beginnings' in Maori language. It was ordered over five years ago and was eventually given to Bezos in April after being tested at sea.

The ship, which was formerly referred to as 'Project 721,' was constructed by Oceanco, a team of sailboat experts, in the notable port of Zwijndrecht near Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Earlier models consisted of the Black Pearl, a 350-foot all-black sailing yacht made of aluminum. This specific design was created for Oleg Burlakov, a Russian billionaire who passed away in 2021 from Covid. The vessel is currently owned by Burlakov's family.

The Koru is known as the second most enormous sailing boat globally, falling behind the Sailing Yacht A, built by Philippe Starcke and owned by Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko.

Bezos could have been honoring Sanchez by creating the megayacht. On the front of the ship's bow, there is a sculpture carved out of wood, depicting a Roman goddess who bears a strong resemblance to his fiance.
