'Baby Shark' bath toy recalled in Canada due to laceration hazard for children

Product recall

In Canada, a bath toy shaped like a "Baby Shark" has been recalled due to concerns that its plastic fin could potentially inflict cuts and injuries.

According to Health Canada, individuals must cease using the Zuru Robo Alive Junior Baby Shark Toy, which has the model number 25282, without delay.

The announcement regarding the recall mentions that the toy shark has a hard plastic fin that could potentially lead to cuts if a child were to accidentally fall onto it.

According to Health Canada, there were approximately 133,630 units of the toys that have been recalled and sold in Canada. However, as of June 7, the company has not received any reports of injuries associated with the use of these toys in Canada.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has released a notification about a comparable recall, outlining that there have been a total of 12 incidents where children have landed or sat on the bathtub toy, which caused them to incur injuries like puncture wounds, impalement injuries and lacerations.

The toy shark that works with batteries is available in different colours - yellow, blue and pink. It swims in water and also sings a song.

Zuru, the corporation, claims that a different edition of the plaything has been available for purchase since March and features a fin on the top made from silicone, which is not included in the product withdrawal.

Individuals have the option to enroll in the product recall by visiting the corporation's online platform, which is https://www.recallrtr.com/bathshark.

The Canadian Press released this article on June 23rd, 2023.
