$700M Needed For 200 MW Solar Power In Indonesia

Perusahaan Listrik Negara wants a $700-million investment. They plan to use this money to install a 200-MW solar panel. The solar panel will replace diesel power generators. This will help to reduce carbon emissions. The company announced this plan on Saturday.

PLN wants to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2060. They have a plan to install 4.68 GW of solar panels from 2021 to 2030.

Evy Haryadi, the company's director, said they will replace 1 GW of diesel power plants with solar power. The first phase is a 200 MW solar panel. Haryadi didn't say when the first phase will happen.

Many countries have come together to support Indonesia's shift towards cleaner energy. They have joined hands under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) and offered a total of US$20 billion in public and private financing to achieve this goal.

Indonesia plans to finish JETP fund allocation by August. Edo Mahendra, head of the JETP Secretariat, shared the news. The program will include a pilot by PLN. The pilot focuses on changing from diesel power to renewables.
