Elon Musk is worth more than $187bn, Forbes says. Sometimes he does things that get attention, and this affects how much money he has. Still, he's one of the richest people in the world and always has been.

Elon Musk's Path To Wealth
Musk was born in 1971 in South Africa. He left his hometown at 17 to study in the US. Musk excelled, earning degrees in Physics and Economics. He started his own company called Zip2, an online business guide. The company was very successful, and he sold it for $300m to Compaq in 1999.
He used the money for X.com. X.com became PayPal. eBay bought PayPal in 2002. It cost $1.5bn. Musk made SpaceX in the same year.
He co-founded Tesla a year later. Tesla is an electric car company. It made him very rich. Shares were worth $400 at their highest in November 2021.
Musk is connected to multiple firms, not only Tesla and SpaceX. These other companies are SolarCity, which installs solar panels, and The Boring Company, which focuses on underground transportation.
Tesla's Ascension
Musk made Tesla famous. He wanted it to be the best EV maker. Tesla used new ideas, modern tech, and better ways to make cars. People liked Tesla's cars and now Tesla is at the top of the EV market.
Musk made Tesla a leader in sustainable transportation. This made the company successful. Musk also made a lot of money from this.
In 2022, he bought Twitter for $44bn. People don't like his decision. He had a lot of money.
Some people weren't sure about the deal and felt like Musk made a quick decision. This caused Tesla's stock market value to drop by more than $100 billion. As a result, Musk lost about $30 billion of his money.

Elon Musk is really good at starting businesses, being creative, and doing risky stuff. He's now one of the richest people on earth, even though he's had some problems on Twitter. He's almost the richest, just behind a fancy French fashion boss named Bernard Arnault according to Forbes.
Forbes says Arnault and family own $220.7bn. This is more than Musk's wealth by $30bn.
Musk has more money than Bezos, Ellison, and Gates. Bezos has $137.8bn, Ellison has $129.5bn, and Gates has $114.0bn. Musk has more than all of them.
People argue about how Musk manages, but he's still pretty rich and important. He's not the richest person ever, but he's still a top dog among billionaires.
