Due to concerns about potential vandalism, authorities had previously imposed restrictions on entry to a shopping center situated in the heart of the eastern French town. This shopping center houses an Apple Store, which was one of the affected entrances.
However, witnesses reported that clusters of young individuals assembled at a separate store entrance adjacent to the shopping center and commenced engaging in destructive acts.
"They shattered two of the shop's windows, and we witnessed bands of youths entering and exiting repeatedly, attempting to pilfer the showcased goods," shared Corentin Flinck, an employee at a nearby establishment, in conversation with AFP.
According to him, the authorities employed teargas to disperse the rioters, while ordinary customers sought shelter within the shops.
A number of law enforcement personnel arrived to prevent entry to the Apple Stores, and the sound of detonations could be heard.
Employees at the nearby Galeries Lafayette department store brought down the metallic barriers for security, just like other shops in the vicinity.
Many high-end stores had already cleared out their storefront showcases, but other shops, which specialized in clothing or footwear, were looted, according to a reporter from AFP.
Protesters also vandalized a law enforcement automobile.
According to the ministry of the interior, a total of eleven individuals have been apprehended.
The Strasbourg opera house's entrance also suffered damage, resulting in the cancellation of the performance scheduled for Friday evening.
The disturbance was ignited by the murder of Nahel, a 17-year-old, which occurred on Tuesday in the outskirts of Paris, specifically in Nanterre.
