Next month, the World Health Organisation (WHO) is expected to classify a frequently utilized sweetener found in various popular diet beverages as a potential cancer-causing agent.

The World Health Organization's division known as the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is on the verge of implementing the tag starting in July. This development has raised worries among consumers regarding the substances present in the edibles and beverages they ingest.

The IARC decision was concluded earlier in June, aiming to evaluate if something poses a potential risk.

The upcoming rebranding will affect aspartame, a widely used artificial sweetener.

The substance scheduled for a new label is aspartame, a well-liked synthetic sweetener present in various food items such as Diet Coke, gum, and low-fat yogurt.

Unearthed in 1965 by American scientist James Schlatter, this sweetener is roughly 200 times more sugary than the typical white sugar.

Aspartame can be found in both Diet Coke and Coke Zero, two widely favored dietary options.

A sugar alternative with fewer calories, it received authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1974 for utilizations like sweetening beverages and enhancing breakfast cereals. It obtained its initial approval for usage in the United Kingdom in 1982.

So, what is the level of aspartame usage in the diet drinks consumed nationwide?
