Help Guide Dogs: Can You Spare Time?

Spring is here and people are coming out of hibernation. It's a good time to meet new people and learn new things. Volunteering could be a new opportunity for you this spring.

Our volunteer family at Guide Dogs is increasing, but we need more members. We invite anyone from any background to join us. Our community of enthusiastic and compassionate volunteers stretches nationwide.

Volunteering for Guide Dogs changes lives. It's not just for people we help. You learn new skills, become more confident, and have unique experiences you can't get elsewhere.

In the UK, there are two million individuals who are visually impaired. Guide Dogs, a charity based in Exeter, helps people with a visual impairment to maintain independence. Their services include sighted guiding, support for kids and young adults, tech access, and guide dogs. The charity is UK-wide.

Lynn volunteered with Guide Dogs 15 years ago. She was a Fundraising Group Coordinator in Cornwall. Lynn felt connected to the charity.

My Mum's first guide dog helped us all loads. Volunteering with Guide Dogs is even better than I thought. It's fun and people in poor areas are really kind. It feels great to assist people in living their best life and being as independent as possible.

Lynn has lots of tasks as a Fundraising Group Coordinator. She arranges events and collections and talks to schools and clubs. Annette, also a Coordinator in Devon, knows what they do is important. She has a guide dog and does other fundraising things.

Abi is Annette's guide dog. Annette got inspired by Abi. Annette decided to volunteer.

I wanted to help after Abi came to live with me. Abi has made a big difference in my life. I feel more comfortable doing things alone. Abi is like my family now and I am so grateful for her.

Annette picked the Fundraising Group Coordinator job for its flexible nature.

I can work at home thanks to this job. Fundraising isn't part of my job, but I decided to help after six months and go out to collect donations too.

Guide Dogs has various Fundraising positions in the county, such as merchandise coordinator, treasurer, secretary, group coordinator, speaker, and general fundraisers. These roles offer flexibility in terms of hours and location, so everyone is welcome to apply! Even if you have only a few hours to give, contact us!

Guide Dogs welcomes new ideas and diversity. When you become a volunteer, we will support and train you, and in turn, learn from your experiences.

We need a fundraising group secretary, a collection box coordinator, and fundraisers in Okehampton. Volunteers are also needed for other services such as sighted guiding and dog-related roles.
