The European Union is aiming to enhance its collaboration with Japan in crucial technologies like artificial intelligence, in order to decrease its reliance on China.

What we know

The European Commissioner, Thierry Breton, will meet with the Japanese government to discuss collaboration in the fields of artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and quantum computing.

"I will collaborate with the Japanese government [...] regarding how we can arrange our digital realm, including artificial intelligence, based on our shared principles," Mr. Breton expressed.

According to him, the parties will establish a digital partnership council between the EU and Japan. Last week, the EU held a similar council with South Korea, where both parties agreed to collaborate in technologies like artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
