Numerous people staying at MGM Resorts on the Las Vegas strip have been denied access to their accommodations following a detrimental hacking event that the company fell victim to, as per sources.
MGM Resorts International has an extensive presence on The Strip with approximately 48,000 spacious lodging options. Some of their remarkable properties include the Mandalay Bay, the Bellagio, Luxor, and MGM Grand, alongside several others.
The interruption, which was initially identified on the evening of Sunday, has impacted the communication via emails in the company, bookings, access cards for hotel rooms, and the functioning of gaming machines in the casino.
On Monday, the company officially announced that there was a security problem that affected some systems. MGM Resorts acted promptly upon discovering the issue by bringing in top cybersecurity professionals to assist in their investigation.
We also informed the police and acted quickly to safeguard our systems and information by shutting down particular systems. We're currently conducting an investigation, and we're working tirelessly to identify the extent and nature of the issue.
Apparently, the failing system is having an impact on the slot machines installed in the casinos of the organization.
Reports suggest that visitors staying at the MGM Resorts on the Las Vegas strip were recently unable to access their rooms due to a cyber assault.
An employee at the famous Bellagio hotel, who assists guests with various services, informed NBC News 3 that the entire system has malfunctioned both within the hotel and outside of it. The duration of time it will take to fix the issue remains unknown.
According to the hotel staff member, all computer tasks are currently being performed by hand.
At the same time, visitors staying at MGM properties have been expressing their concerns on various social media platforms, claiming that they are unable to access their accommodations.
A video clip displays the ARIA casino without any functioning machines during a blackout that persisted until shortly before 4pmEST.
MGM is the largest provider of jobs in Nevada and holds the majority stake in the casinos situated along the Strip.
At the moment, the website of the organization cannot be accessed by the public and advising prospective customers to contact them through a phone call in order to make reservations.
People staying at MGM properties have been posting on social media to talk about what's happening.
The automated teller machines (ATMs) and the devices used to process credit cards are currently out of order. As a result, the restaurants on the premises will now solely accept cash payments while the ability to charge expenses to the room has been temporarily suspended.
Visitors reportedly informed 8NewsNow that they faced a room access issue late Sunday and were unable to purchase any meals due to the system malfunction.
There are reports from some individuals asserting that they were not able to redeem their ticket or receive their winnings after using the slot machines at the casino.
It seems that MGM properties beyond Vegas, such as the Borgata situated in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and Biloxi in Mississippi, are experiencing the power failure.
Back in 2019, MGM was breached by hackers, and it was reported that a massive 142 million guests were impacted by the attack.
Earlier reports indicated that Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey, and Justin Bieber were among those involved in the security breach.
ZDNet confirmed that the breach did not include any financial data. MGM's representative reported that the majority of the exposed information consisted of contact details such as individuals' full names, home addresses, and email addresses.
