Cheng Khai Lim, who serves as the Executive Director of the Financial Markets Development Department at MAS, emphasized the significance of enhancing the structuring and deal abilities in the Asian region. This is a crucial step for Singapore as it aims to simplify its regulatory framework for insurance-linked securities (ILS).
He talked about the potential for expansion in the insurance-linked securities (ILS) markets worldwide and specifically in the Asian region.
Specifically, he highlighted the importance of substantial backing from both conventional and unconventional sources, like the financial market, to enhance the safeguarding measures against escalating damages caused by natural disasters in the area.
Lim stated that the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) is dedicated to aiding in the development of ILS structuring abilities and expanding ILS issuance in Singapore.
The Singaporean financial regulatory body, known as the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), will further back the issuance of catastrophe bonds and insurance-linked securities (ILS) in the Asia and Pacific area. They plan to extend the ILS grant program for an additional three years, until the conclusion of 2025.
