E. coli

Calgary's hospital emergencies have witnessed an influx of children seeking medical attention due to an outbreak of E. coli bacteria in daycare facilities, as reported by Alberta Health Services.

AHS has confirmed that many children with bloody diarrhea have been treated at the Alberta Children's Hospital over the long weekend.

In a statement, Alberta Health Services suspects that the outbreak might have stemmed from a central kitchen that is utilized by six branches of Fueling Brains, a childcare service, and five other establishments.

In response to an interview request from CBC/Radio-Canada, Fueling Brains stated in a press release that they will provide further information on Tuesday.

According to AHS, as many as 50 children have gone to the emergency room.

Seventeen laboratory-confirmed cases of E. coli contamination have been reported, according to AHS, with twelve children being admitted to the hospital.
