Theranos Scammer Elizabeth Holmes Has Prison Sentenced Reduced by Two Years

Elizabeth Holmes

Holmes is expected to be released from custody on December 29, 2032.

Elizabeth Holmes is set to spend a slightly reduced time in prison. According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons website, the release date for the Theranos founder has been changed to December 29, 2032. This alteration cuts down her original sentence of 11 years and three months by two years, as confirmed by Rolling Stone.

A representative from BOP informed NBC News that they were unable to provide any additional details regarding the mentioned decision. However, it was mentioned that individuals who are imprisoned can accumulate good behavior credits, which may affect their anticipated release date.

The revised date of release indicates the duration she managed to reduce from her sentence based on the BOP's "good time chart."

In November, Holmes received her punishment and commenced her time in prison on May 30. Following her conviction in January 2022 for deceiving investors in order to secure funds for her blood-testing venture, Theranos, Holmes dedicated most of the time in between attempting to obtain a reconsideration of her trial and pleading to avoid incarceration. Despite her unsuccessful appeals for new trials, her sentencing was rescheduled on two occasions. (During that period, she faced four charges of wire fraud.)

In the lead-up to the sentencing, Holmes' legal team submitted a lengthy 82-page document, urging the court to refrain from imposing any imprisonment and instead impose a period of 18 months of confinement within her own residence. Within the submission, various correspondence from over 130 individuals close to Holmes, such as friends, family, former colleagues, and investors, were included. These letters highlighted Holmes' extensive involvement in voluntary activities, her trustworthiness as a companion, and her sincere dedication towards improving the state of the world.

A message from Holmes' business associate, Billy Evans, validated what appeared to be quite obvious in Holmes' latest court hearing - that she is expecting another child. The prosecution urged for a prison sentence of 15 years and a hefty fine amounting to $804 million.

The blog section could be rewritten as: Additionally, Ramesh "Sunny" Balwani, the Chief Operating Officer of Theranos, was found guilty and sentenced to almost 13 years in prison.
