The large and repeated rate hikes by the Federal Reserve (Fed) have also proven costly for their initiator. Jerome Powell, the Fed's president who will deliver a speech at the Jackson Hole conference on August 25th, has seen the value of his wealth plummet, as stated in his disclosures to the US Office of Government Ethics, responsible for monitoring the investments of government members and federal agencies. Each year, they must provide information about their financial holdings, in the form of a range.

In 2022, the Federal Reserve President's wealth reached 75.4 million dollars, according to their highest estimate, and an average of 48 million dollars. These figures represent a decline of nearly 27% compared to the previous year when their assets had exceeded 100 million dollars, excluding real estate, at their most optimistic value.
