Here are the changes to expect on Illinois roads for Labor Day weekend
Labor Day: Your Friday Traffic Nightmare
As the Labor Day weekend approaches, Illinois authorities have revealed modifications to state highways that may affect motorists, considering the anticipated surge in travel during this extended holiday period.
Just like how Thanksgiving, the Fourth of July, and Memorial Day encounter an influx of vehicles, Labor Day also witnesses a surge in traffic, especially on the Friday prior to it.
The typical American can anticipate around 90% more time for traveling, implying that a car ride that usually lasts for an hour might extend to approximately 1 hour and 54 minutes. (Discover helpful travel tips here)
To tackle this issue, the Illinois Department of Transportation revealed that a significant number of lanes that were previously closed due to construction will be made available again, wherever feasible, for the holiday period.
Authorities stated that there will be no temporary shutdowns, except for emergencies, from 3 p.m. on Friday until 11:59 p.m. on Monday.
However, there will still be a number of individuals who choose to stay put over the holiday weekend, and authorities responsible for transportation have cautioned drivers to anticipate possible hold-ups in those areas.
This is a compilation of road lane closures that will continue to be in effect throughout the entire state.
