The National Energy Administration has released a statement urging coal-producing regions and companies in China to speed up their implementation of 'smart-mining' technologies.

Officials have praised the concept of smart mining as a way to enhance safety and efficiency in the mining industry. This involves utilizing unmanned mining vehicles that can be operated from data centers situated above ground, replacing the need for human laborers.

As declared in the statement, China has successfully set up the technology in over 1,000 functional coal mines as a measure of their campaign. These sites can produce more than 620 million tons of coal every year.

The coal mines in the nation are recognized as some of the most hazardous globally because of the absence of proper safety protocols. So, the administration continuously urges for stricter measures to be implemented.

In spite of notable advancements made in recent times, the number of deaths reported in the previous year peaked at 245 deaths, marking a six-year record high. This happened amidst demands for increased coal production, as per the statistics provided by the National Mine Safety Administration.
