'Just disgusting': Travellers kicked off Air Canada plane for refusing to sit in seats soiled with vomit

Air Canada

Air Canada expresses its sincerest apologies to its passengers following reports of regrettably soiled seats with vomit during a flight from Las Vegas to Montreal.

According to a lady who claims to have been a traveler on the flight that took place on August 26, she stated on a social media platform that the flight personnel "put coffee grounds in the pouch located on the seat and used perfume to cover up the foul odor" emitted by vomit before passengers entered the plane.

Susan Benson, during her interview with CTV News Montreal, shared her dissatisfaction by stating that her seat was wet. She specified that the wetness was located at the front of the seat in front of her and even on her seatbelt. According to her, the situation was utterly appalling. Consequently, she proceeded to summon a flight attendant by pressing the call button.

Benson shared on Tuesday, Aug. 29 that when the visibly distressed passengers attempted to convey to the flight attendant that their seat and seatbelt were damp and there were still remnants of vomit in their vicinity, the flight attendant expressed sincere apologies but clarified that the flight was completely booked and unfortunately, there was no feasible solution available.

The journey from Las Vegas to Montreal takes nearly four and a half hours. According to Benson's account, the passengers were provided with blankets, wipes, and extra vomit bags. Once they were comfortable, the pilot evidently approached them and requested their departure.

Afterward, Benson claimed that the pilot rose from his seat and proceeded towards the airplane's cockpit. Suddenly, security personnel appeared and accompanied the two women out of the aircraft.

CTV News contacted Air Canada to verify the details of Benson's account.

As a reaction, the airline stated that it was "assessing this significant issue internally and had subsequently contacted the customers directly."

The Air Canada stated that there was a lapse in following the correct operating procedures on this occasion, and they have also extended apologies to the affected customers.

"The airline expressed that the travelers did not receive the expected level of attention they deserved. We are still communicating with them regarding this issue."
